You can download an old version of Inbox that still works without the white screen of lies, and it’s signed by Google and verified so I feel safe using it.

  1. After uninstalling Inbox and installing this APK, don’t forget to go to the Play Store, then Inbox, then click on the three-dot menu and un-select « Enable auto update »

  2. As lazy as Google is with the development of useful features like Bundles for Gmail, I hope they will be as lazy blocking this workaround so we will be able to use it forever.

  3. Is there a way to disable the ads in gmail? I’m ~~am~~ was a happy user of Inbox. Gmail has improved a lot, but having ads that don’t look too different to actual emails is really annoying

  4. Google has disabled/removed Inbox from the sync menu in Settings, so even if we get the app to open with some workaround it wouldn’t load new emails until you go open it to sync in foreground.

  5. Honest question, and I’m not trying to be sarcastic:

Why there is this sudden influx about Inbox related posts? I rarely heard about it last year and seems like Google is simply pulling the plug on it due to lack of active users. Are people just now discovering it?

Personally I found it very confusing for the short period I used it in.

  6. Does Google have a way to stop people using inbox remotely ? Like stopping something on the server that is needed for inbox to connect to the Gmail account.

Regular mail client wouldn’t be able to but inbox is made by Google that use to put the maximum of stuff server side so I wouldn’t be sure you can use it for very long.

  7. Sweet! Works for me. Hopefully they don’t notice at least until they actually move all the features to Gmail and update it to not look awful.

  8. I tried inbox a year or so for awhile and decided to to just go with the gmail app. I fail to see what was so great about it that I was missing out on. What features or design elements did you appreciate about this now discontinued app?

  9. Sorry about being out of the loop, but can someone please explain what the deal is with recent versions of inbox that makes people want to use an old version?

  10. > it’s signed by Google and verified so I feel safe using it

Lol this just shows you don’t know what you’re talking about, that means nothing and is easily altered

  11. I loved Inbox as much as the next guy, but this is honestly getting stupid. I get it that no other email app (for the time being) has the same features as Inbox, but the longer you prolong the inevitable, the more it’ll hurt when that bandaid has to come off. The moment I knew Inbox was being killed I bit the bullet and dumped it (which was sometime last year) and the months that followed let me adjust to an Inbox-less life. Now, I don’t feel tied down to it. The lot of you still clinging to embers like this are going to be met with a rude awakening one day when Google finally removes all traces of Inbox, and then what? Post a rant a day on this sub in the hopes they bring it back? Please be realistic, this is Google we’re talking about.

If I have any advice to give, it’s to slowly distance yourself from the Google ecosystem, not desperately cling onto shreds of it like this. Google has proven time and time again they don’t care about us and that we shouldn’t have confidence in their products staying forever. We should be supporting other parties that hope to give us alternatives in the face of Google’s cluelessness. Instead what do I find? The Spark email thread being bombarded with « BUT IT’S NOT INBOX » comments. It’s a V1 launch, and if this sub is constantly going to shit on such attempts to improve our shitty ecosystem, then don’t be surprised if one day, all you’re left with is the godforsaken Gmail app and Google’s other worsening apps.

Sorry for the rant, but this among other things are the reason why I cannot take this sub seriously anymore.

  12. I discovered this days ago, and actually wish people didn’t talk so loudly about it, so there might be a chance Google doesn’t shut anything on the back end down.
