  1. Mainstream media has become a joke. Governments fund intelligence projects with public money (e.g DARPA). Microsoft and Amazon are working on facial recognition. Google does AI research. IBM builds supercomputers. That technology is used by state security (e.g DHS at airports). Stuff like this just pure propaganda.

  2. So I’m as paranoid about data loss as the next person, but the « funding » concept can be easily twisted. Was this funding to provide a back channel to Huawei servers or was this state funded research in security software that Huwaei was involved in developing…there is a big difference. I responded to a thread a whole back about how the US government funded Google for security software. It was reported in the same nefarious way but when I asked the above the thread died.

I’m no fan of giant corporations with no checks (I think there needs to be more controls against illegal use and access of personal data) but I’m even less of a fan of fear mongering and twisted accusations.

  3. Snowden has already showed that all US companies are OBligated to share data with the US government upon request. This is a fact. And the Snowden leak has provided far more actual evidence than any thing the US is accusing Huawei of.

Of course Huawei has received funding from the Chinese government. But this is not about that. Most US companies involved in critical areas of research and technology have received government or pentagon funding in one form or another.

What this is really about is how for the first time a NOn -US company is now dominating an area of critical importance. And the us will have a difficult time accessing it’s data going forward. Huawei could be the most innocent company ever, and it would still create beef with the US.

  4. Saya US as it continues funding into amazon, apple, microsoft, google, fb, tweeter.

US is just upset it has no control over what China manufactures now. So its back to the other US playbook, fear mongering. THe ‘otghers’ are evil look, they are being evil in these ways. -But ah…arent we doign the same. ITS NOT THE SAME THING, THEY ARE NOT US GOT IT, YOU COMMIE

  5. China is an authoritarian state. If you do business with any company there, you are either of no interest to the Gov. at the moment, or are already following directives from above. There is no option for these companies.

  6. And Verizon, ATT, and all of the major tech companies in the USA assist and provide information to the federal government secretly……….

Big fucking deal? The US Intelligence agencies really don’t have any credibility left.

  7. The US Government has put themselves through their own doing of not being able to be believed, proven liars over and over again, so is something they say the truth, half truth, disinformation, misinformation or out right propaganda? Who knows, I can’t tell but if you can good for you.

  8. Who should have unrestrained access to your life? A domestic agent, a foreign agent who has no interest in you?
Sucks, but this seems to be the world now.

  9. This is obviously bad, but it’s kinda rich coming from US intelligence (like the NSA is some bastion of privacy). If you disagree with Huawei’s actions on the basis that they’re violating people’s right to privacy, then you have to also concede that Google, Facebook, etc. are equally guilty and if you don’t then complain/lobby for change/boycott them, then you have a double standard.

Edit: that’s not to mention that these are only allegations (although I would be very surprised if they weren’t true) without hard evidence.

  10. As usual, lots of people in here trying to cover for Huawei. Most likely astroturfing…if anyone actually believes that Huawei is independent of the Chinese government, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them.

  11. « U.S. intelligence has accused Huawei Technologies of being funded by Chinese state security, The Times said on Saturday, adding to the list of allegations faced by the Chinese technology company in the West. »

Well said allegations, US should provide some proof if they want to be believed by anyone besides manipulated Americans.
