  1. « A 100MP camera sensor with 0.3- or 0.4-micron pixels will essentially produce pixel-binned results that are equivalent to a 25MP 0.6-micron or 0.8-micron camera.  »

Where’s the article getting those numbers? If a 48mp sensor has .8 micron pixels, then a 192 nearly 200MP sensor would have .4 micron pixels, .3 microns would be a sensor the same size but way more. 100MP wouldn’t need pixels that small firstly, secondly the imx586 which is 48MP is only a 1/2″ sensor. Phones like the Huawei p30 pro have a 1/1.7″ sensor and aren’t overly thick or with a huge bump. Sure we won’t see phones with 1″ sensors, but we can see bigger sensors that the current 48MP ones today which would allow for larger pixels at 48MP or less size reduced pixels at 100MP. The big question for me is can the optics provide a benefit at these higher resolutions or do we hit a limit as some people have claimed we do already.

  2. My first thought about a 100MP camera on a phone wasn’t the storage issue, it was the fact that I wouldn’t be able to send any image as an attachment in any program I use to communicate to people.

  3. this is useless number stretching on shitty sensor sizes.

The megapixels are irrelevant until the sensors and glass are bigger.

The MP hype is bullshit and nobody should care if all it means are blurry pictures at 1:1.

  4. Terrible article. Mentioning size of images, but forgets about far bigger problems. Biggest of all is without question power requirements. Working with data that big would kill battery really fast.
