  1. How they handled the feedback at first wasn’t the best but I’m here for the app not the wit. I didn’t love the changes at first but I got use to them and I actually like the UI now. The only thing I didn’t like was no multi select and they just fixed that. I’m more than happy and they have added more options. Can’t be mad at that.

  2. Still having podcasts pause/restart 2-3 times in the first 15 seconds of playback. If I do something else within the app it’ll also cause a pause. Pixel 2 XL on Pie

  3. The real question, how is the battery life? For me was a nightmare. Twice the drain after the new update. Change to Podcast Republic and I swear, can listen to two hours and loose only 5 to 6 percent; with Pocket Casts 10% easy.

  4. Besides the just about objectively worse UI/navigation which I can get over, the performance is just so bad now. On my OG pixel XL its laggy and unresponsive.

  5. Version 7 has given me nothing but issues. I feel like the new UI is designed around looks and not usage. I see this god damned shit so often where UI changes are made just to make things look pretty when in reality it strips features and makes me click on twice the amount of buttons to do the same thing I used to be able to do.

This update is a total failure in my eyes and apparently a lot of others too.

  6. Sigh. I bought PocketCasts because my long used DogCatcher wouldn’t add the needed ability to increase the podcast volume to match Google Maps announcements – which were about twice as loud as the podcast. Apparently DogCatcher users had been asking for this feature for years.

Anyway I got PocketCasts and spend just enough (mystifying) minutes with it to set it up and get it running for my favourite list of podcasts, and I enjoy it daily for a time. Then… somebody moved my cheese.

I wake up one day to find my podcasts absolutely scrambled and some new mystifying UI that I can’t make heads or tails of (while in rush hour driving). WTF? Who did this?

Oh well, I’ll just… WTF… how the hell does this work now? … Argh!

WTF can’t these sw companies ADD new features such that I can toggle back and forward between the versions OR AT LEAST put in some visual prompts so that I don’t find myself tossed into another Alternate Reality Adventure Game with no rules? Gawd. It’s ***NOT*** too much to ask.

Yes, I’m sure you’re really proud of your « better » changes, and I’m sure they make perfect sense to you, seeing as you spend 10 hours a day, every day, hacking away at it. For the rest of us, you know – the customers who’ve ***paid*** for it, don’t deserve this treatment. Imagine, just imagine if your ***car*** did this to you. There’d be blood in the streets.

    Yeah, I know… it’s coming…

  7. DAE think that the UI is a bit messy? (https://i.imgur.com/Sre52ZF.jpg)

I just want unplayed episodes to be in bold, and played episodes to be grayed out. What is with the weird blue lines?

Now, I’ve been vocal in my comments about the archival feature being unnecessary and confusing, but I guess if you want, maybe have archive hide episodes from the view?

  8. Does somebody know if there is a way to play downloaded episodes? I have a few episodes of Hardcore History and can’t find a way to play them from Pocket Casts.

  9. Didn’t like the redesign at first, but I’ve grown to like it. Syncing is better and the design feels much cleaner. Glad that they’re addressing people’s problems with it too.

  10. I just uninstalled it I just can’t make any sense out the UI and more importantly it’s just using way too much battery and actually heating up my phone since 7 (I’ve had my phone give battery warnings on it on days I didn’t even open the app so I don’t know what the apps doing but it’s obviously doing something and I’ve now lost my trust in it.

Temporarily using « Tune in Radio Pro » which I’m actually finding a lot simpler despite not even really being a podcast app.

I’m sure I’ll change to something else eventually as it lacks some basics like Trim Silence and Speed but since I already had it, it’s good enough for now.

  11. I held off upgrading from version 6 to 7 because of the negative press but finally did it today after reading this post, expecting the bugs to be ironed out. Now the widget on my homescreen is not working which is something I use many times a day. What an absolute pain in the ass.
