  1. Inb4 Google announces they are shutting down Google voice, but don’t worry, they’re migrating all your favorite features over to messages and phone! But they don’t. They never do.

  2. I tried switching to Google Voice for my primary number a few years ago so I could text from a computer (before that was available in Messages), but after missing many messages from my wife while running Android Auto on my phone in the car I had to give it up. Maybe it will be worthwhile to switch back soon, being able to text from a computer by just signing in to my Google account was nice.

  3. This is pretty common practice. Anyone who has ever developed programs should know that you put out a minimal viable product and improve on it through iterations. Good job on Google for getting started though!

  4. Android auto still doesn’t even have a seek bar for music, while apple carplay does. If you start a song in AA you need to listen to that slow minute long intro unless you want to dangerously use your phone to skip it.

  5. And here I was thinking I didn’t have good enough reception or some bullshit while trying to send a NEW text with my voice while driving. I always thought, why does it only work sometimes? Meanwhile it only worked while I was responding to a text that was sent to me. At least this makes me feel a bit better.

  6. Here’s something a bit depressing:

Way back in Sept 2017, a user complained on Twitter that Android Auto didn’t support Google Voice.

    According to a Google PM:

    >[‘OK Google, send a Google Voice message’ coming soon to GV, this will help](https://twitter.com/JanJedrzejowicz/status/904982470411636736?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E904982470411636736&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidpolice.com%2F2017%2F09%2F05%2Fok-google-send-google-voice-message-command-coming-soon-help-google-voice-numbers%2F)

Assistant support still isn’t here, but at least they partially added Android Auto support anyways. LOL.

  7. I’ve given up on android auto. Its so slow to launch or navigate through the tabs. I have my phone just auto launch spotify and google maps and I only miss voice replying to texts.

  8. I remember when Google Voice was released; I thought it was awesome I could easily sign up for a second phone number and quickly made it my primary number. That was 10 years ago. I’m mostly just annoyed with Google Voice now and think I’ll just port it out and never mess with Google Voice again.

  9. Android Auto is basically useless for me because it doesn’t work with offline maps. It’s much easier to just use the full app because it takes more steps to do everything hands-free.
