  1. Wild how only a week or so ago they published DU 13 then just decide to call it quits after some successful builds.

I do understand moving on though, it’s been quite a long lived project.

  2. I remember back in the day I used to flash roms like every other day. Was so fun. Not sure what happened, got older I guess? Who knows. Good times with some of these roms. Where everything cool needed root. Fun to try over the years tho.

  3. I’ve custom roms have been dying for some years now. I use to build them all the time and gradually lost interest or a need. Sure it helps keeps some phones updated but many are getting made that it’s not even possible or worth the trouble

  4. DU always impressed me with mere ammount of tweaks they menaged to fit in their roms. it was always fun to play with back in my Nexus 4 days.

You will be long rememnered, DU. Hopefully we see each other again in some other projects! Cheers

  5. This group of developers did a great job on so many phones. I remember checking XDA everyday to see if they dropped anything new. Good times.. I feel like a reason rooting isn’t as big any more is because now we have a good amount of the things we want coming from stock. Compared to how bad jelly Bean and KitKat were back in the day.

  6. 2012 and 2013 were the XDA days for me back then. I’d constantly switch between AOKP, AOSPA, CM, and other corresponding kanged derivatives of those three with my GSII since I couldn’t make up my mind on which ROM was better overall. I think Dirty Unicorns was the one I’d usually jump back to after flitzing around with ROMs.

It’s actually pretty sad to see that Dirty Unicorns devs are leaving the scene, or whatever is left of the ROMing scene since a lot of phones are starting to get locked down (looking at you snapdragon Samsung phones). Either way, godspeed to whatever future endeavors they take up

  7. ROMs really started becoming popular back in the Gingerbread/ICS days (not so much Honeycomb because that version was tablet-specific). Next to CM, DU ROMs had some of the best features and creativity baked into their ROMs. Gonna miss them. =(
