Imagine if they made the headphone jack a power supply.

  1. The auxiliary jack isnt made of enough pins to handle a USB-C or even microUSB standard.

So to replace the usb connector with astandalone auxiliary jack would mean you would limit the device to 5% the charging and data transferring capabities.

Also, FYI, companies have dabbled with this idea almost 20 years ago.

  2. A new jack port, same shape as the old one (so backwards compatible) but perhaps constructed out of horizontal segments that could add high audio, data transfer and power via its segments.

But as we know there’s a general shift to wireless for power, data and audio, with a mix of propriety and pseudo-standard connections.

Personally I’d love it if I had a wireless headphones, where if the power ran out, I could simply connect this jack port to both phone and headphones, and decide if I want to charge the headphones too! Use case would be if on the metro, for a bit longer, charge it so that noise cancelling works, but once top side, just have it sending the audio signal through.

There would of course be naming issues for this port but you can tell in your bones, it would have to be called Jill!!!

Fundamentally you could have 2 of these ports as well!
