  1. I changed my iPhone 7+ (had most of the previous iPhones since 3G) for a used P20 Pro a couple months ago, after I saw a friends crazy good night concert shot.

This one blows even that out of the water.

I’d say by now, the other manufacturers are a generation behind.

I’ve preordered mine with a free Sonos 2, ready for delivery Saturday, cannot wait.

  2. Considering their last 2 or 3 flagships (the P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and now the P30 pro) I dare to say Huawei is currently ahead of Samsung and Apple in camera hardware.

  3. That is just absolutely incredible. I know the quality really drops off, but even the 5x zoom at a concert for example would be *INSANE*. And I can only imagine how much fun you could have if you put this phone on a tripod for those zoom shots… Omg.

  4. Fuck it. For shots like that China can spy on my data all they want. /s

But yes… legitimately the best photos I think anyone has ever seen from a phone.

  5. it’s things like this that make me sad that Huawei phones won’t work on Verizon. Samsung S10+ is the best phone available in the US and i hear the cameras are comparable to each other, but damn this is amazing

  6. It feels disingenuous to present it as 50x, when most of that is digital zoom. The optical zoom is already very impressive, so I don’t see any reason to exaggerate it further.

  7. Honest question, even at low levels of zoom, isn’t stability with a smartphone camera a problem? The 50x pic in the video had to have been shot with a tripod, right?

Unless this has been solved with software or something. I’m like 5 generations behind so idk.

  8. I don’t know if it is a trick of the light, but in the Eiffel Tower shot, the top left corner of the white building seems to be slightly lower and to the right in the zoomed images… not completely convinced they are zooming the same image.

  9. That zoom and night sight (or whatever they call it) are crazy sh*t. It makes me forget about the shortcomings of EMUI and sell my Oneplus 6 for it.

  10. The zoom is amazing, but something about this current generation of phones and more moveable parts does not sit easy with me. It’s a device that’s going to live for 2 years, daily use and knocks and you have to hope this moving parts are robust enough to survive I really doubt it.

My doubt aside the pictures are incredible for a phone, well played Huawei.

(as I understand it the p30 tele photo lens uses a mirror to take the shot, with a bit of movement within the case)
