  1. Very low light: no contest, P30 Pro wins

    Normal low light: even match

Very low light photography aside, I’m calling this Huawei P30 Pro vs Google Pixel 3 XL shootout a tie. In my experience, the Huawei P30 Pro offered the best results when light was dim, but the Pixel 3 XL came on top in many “normal” low-light shooting situations. Plus, the Pixel seemed to handle bright lights better, without blowing up highlights or prominent lens flares (perhaps the always-on HDR helped).

  2. I agree with the test overall but the clocktower the Pixel comes out on top to me. While the P30 produces a more pleasant image the Pixel looks way more true to life to me

  3. Shame that they have that absolutely huge sensor, but the processing is so poor.

Objectively, from the sample shots that I saw, in good lightning the P30 does not come close in terms of details retention to my 5mpx Canon A610 from 2005 that had a 1/1.8 sensor (just dug up some photos to look at).

It’s 14 years in between, larger sensor, better processing power, and yet the results are unconvincing. And it’s just compared to a compact camera, not a DSLR from that age.
