  1. I really like this guy. He is more critical than normal reviewers while also being really fair. He is up there with Erica Griffin and somegadgetguy for me in terms of « if I’m gonna buy a phone, I will choose my shortlist of phones based on the opinions of the 3 mainstream reviewers I watch and then pick one from the shortlist by watching these 3 in-depth people. »

  2. It’s a pretty fair review to be honest, more so than you’d think based on the title. I think he’s trying to fish for the audience that’s looking to dislike the device with that. Pretty evident by the comments that they’re there, lol.

I think most flagship phones of the past like 4 years take excellent photos in good conditions, it’s the low light or zooming capabilities they don’t have, and these are definitely the unique strengths of the p30p – both were more or less glossed over in this review.

Based on my week’s worth of usage the fingerprint reader is the worst part about the phone followed by perhaps the video recording.

  3. Flagship phones should be more all around good performers imo, especially for the prices they ask for them. For me it’s not enough for the phone to take the best pictures, or to have the most responsive UI, or brightest screen ,while being subpar at a lot of other things.

  4. I get that he’s making money by appealing to critical people but some of his points seem a little unfair. How could the zoom possibly kick in at 3x everywhere in the picture(it’s a 5x lens) . And he even leaves out that it does kick in for the center of the picture as pointed out by other reviewers .

He also only talks about 4k video performance when the p30 pro has very good 1080p performance with great stabilisation.

  5. Just noticed how huge the chin is on this phone. Damn, I’m so disappointed in all manufacturers these days. Shitty notches etc. that jut into the display – I mean just look at how the notch interferes with the screen’s D-pad on the game he’s playing at the beginning.

  6. Another reviewer who spends the entire review shooting in auto, no thanks – I just don’t think the mainstream tech bloggers are getting the entire point of the P-Series. If you’re not going to dive into pro-mode then you may aswell buy an S10 or Pixel because aside from the zoom you’re not going to notice that much of a difference. The entire reason why Huawei devices have such a thorough custom settings menu is so you can impart your creation vision onto the imagery you take, both the P20 and P30 were made for shooting in pro and post-processing.

Luckily I’ve watched a few reviews from photography bloggers and websites where they support this perspective, not people who just want to take selfies and pictures of their dinner.
