  1. This is the « open the floodgates » moment for GSIs that everyone’s been waiting for.

Q for almost every Treble or Treble-ported device and it’s not even I/O yet. Expect bugs and missing drivers for weirder hardware, but this is huge.

  2. As an Android enthusiast, but not a developer, I think this is the actual beginning of Treble implementation that everyone was waiting for.

While Oreo does provide a lot, I was reading up on all the original Project Treble announcements from 2018 and I realized I, along with most people, misunderstood exactly what was going on.

Treble brought compartmentalizing to Android to make it easier to update — we did see so many faster updates to Android Pie than normal — most people still thought Treble did « nothing, » especially because Samsung took a little while to get Android Pie out of the gate.

    **Two issues:**

    * Samsung also overhauled their entire UI UX implementation and it is very, very nice and feels very advanced – Android Q is only natively putting in some things that Samsung has already worked on with the Android Pie update. This is definitely one reason it took as long as it did to update as it did with Oreo last year, which had no UI changes.
    * The phones need to support Treble from the ground up with all their hardware, not just be built for it. This means it would be an entire generation of phone cycles to get to where we are now.

So, yes, Treble did work but we still are not at a point to judge any of it.

I would love additional commentary from anyone who knows more than I do. And correct anything I am wrong on.

  3. (ARM64+GMS) + (any flagship with unlockable bootloader) = who would still want a Pixel?

please be available for the stable releases as well 🙏
