  1. I really want an excuse to completely ditch the iOS environment. My biggest issue with Android tablets is lack of support, but it’s the chicken and egg problem. People aren’t buying tablets due to lack of support and developers aren’t making apps compatible with tablets due to the lack of people buying.

Edit: I think people are seeing this as me trying to trash talk Android. i’ve been an Android user for almost a decade. I love the platform and what ChromeOS could be, but it’s all fragmented and lacks the identity that Apple and Microsoft has developed for their products and services.

  2. Well so much for Google cutting back as rumored 2 weeks ago. Which really never made sense. They added 2,000 hardware people from the HTC acquisition and were just moving some roles.

  3. They’ll update it once and drop support in a year. The iPad is so far ahead app and hardware wise, just get that unless there is some Android specific thing you need.

  4. If they’re planning on charging Windows PC prices, its dead on arrival. I don’t see how Google can justify $1K for a Pixelbook when its functionally inferior to an equivalent priced Mac or PC.

  5. I wonder if the « new laptops and tablets inbound » were already well into the planning stages when they moved employees out of that hardware group in the company?

I really want to like and buy more Google hardware, but the hardware group at Google just isn’t what I thought it would be. They are not focused and the pricing for their ChromeOS devices are ridiculously high. I can’t be the only person who won’t pay well over $1000 for a Pixel ChromeOS laptop or tablet. I don’t need a premium device.

Another thing that strikes me as odd, is perhaps they need to start releasing their flagship phones earlier in the year. By the time October rolls around, they release phones that use much of the same hardware (Snapdragon processor) that other companies have used for 9 months of the year. Samsung has several months to sell their lates S-series phone.

  6. It’s going to be over priced and not sell if they have a x86 version and it cant dual boot Windows/Linux. Idk why google wont release firmware for windows 10, it would be a huge competitor especially if they somehow allow fast switch between windows and ChromeOS.
