  1. Wow, the 15 years has gone by pretty fast. I remember getting an invitation when that was the only way to get the email account. This was the start of my relationship with Google lol.

  2. I’m gonna say, I know we’re all on the « fuck Gmail, bring back Inbox » train, but I will say that I appreciate the scheduled send option finally being in Gmail proper rather than driving me to third-party apps. At this point smart bundles and read receipts (without weird extensions) are the only real reasons I’d go to a third-party app anymore and neither is compelling enough at this point.

Yes, there’s still room for Gmail to grow. Like I’d like better Tasks integration (rather than just a sidebar), fold Tasks and Reminders together and integrate them into Gmail the way Inbox had Reminders and link saves, a one-click option to mark an email as read *and* archive it simultaneously, bundling (of course), etc. I’d like to see more of the jovial attitude, animations and color scheme of Inbox make its way somehow into Gmail but honestly I think that’s not gonna happen.

But I will say I used to basically vomit using the Gmail app and now I find it totally usable and… fine. The Inbox experiment, in that regard, certainly paid off.

  3. 2 things I want from Gmail:

    1. More advanced UI actions/buttons incorporating programmable Ops like archive/delete after X days, etc. One has to write scripts presently.

    2. Ability to set default « All inboxes » or Unified Inbox as default on the android App.

    Kudos so far! Great App/service.

  4. The only logical explanation I can think of for them not adding bundles to GMail is because they think the average user will get confused on where their emails went. At least that’s what I try to tell myself.

  5. My Inbox app says it’ll go away in one day .I’ll use it until it literally stops working. Holding out hope they won’t really disable it on my phone…

  6. It’s been a good run.

But now with bundles gone, feels like a good time switch to something more private. What are the best alternatives these days?

  7. I wonder if one of amazing things Gmail offers is 2-3 seconds of waiting circle Everytime I open new mail, before it opens.. seriously, I tried to use Gmail instead of inbox but it feels so slowly compared to inbox I can’t even.

  8. Has anyone else noticed that their search results in Gmail really suck now, or has Google decided to select me as a new algorithm guinae pig? Because holy hell do my searches suck now, if I do a simple search for something like « shipped » it used to accurately pull me results for items that have shipped, now it pulls in every garbage email that says shipped anywhere in it, which is most emails from any store.

  9. I’m really trying to make the switch, but can’t find emails and feel like I’m going to miss something important.

Example: I’ve got a receipt for a monthly auto pay showing as unread right now. It doesn’t show in the Updates tab, but it does show in the Updates category (on the left side- browser view). WTF is the difference, and why are they showing different emails?

  10. At this point i’m starting to think Google doesn’t want us to have bundles anymore. Maybe allowing users to cast away all the spam email in one fell swoop is costing them advertising dollars?
