  1. Reminds me of the sad state of Android update situation. I know it’s a wip but wonder how much the Project Treble really impacted in this regard.

  2. Maybe these apps are foreshadowing something. Maybe one day, Google will break out Android OS into the Play Store, much like what they did with WebView.

  3. Though there are no doubt a huge amount of scam updating apps not all updating apps are scams

There’s one called Huawei Firmware Finder that’s legit.

It allowed me to upgrade to 9.0 slightly before Three (my Network Operator) got around to approving it

  4. I can see people falling for these. I don’t use Apple devices but I recently updated my Mom’s MacBook for her, and you really go to the app store and just download Mojave. I didn’t even believe it at first.

  5. Here’s the problem. Not enough people give a damn about getting updates. If they did there would be more people buying Pixel phones & there would’ve more people buying Nexus phones. Hopefully this new budget line of Pixels will give users better cheaper access to timely updates; but seriously, ask the average Android user what version of Android they’re on & see if they even have a clue what you’re talking about.

  6. These apps aren’t fake. My Galaxy S9 is now running on Android R thanks to one of these apps. Not sure why it’s lagging so badly and an ad pops up each time I open an app, not to mention each time I try to download an app from Google Play, I am confronted with a survey asking me to fill out all my personal information in order to win a free Xbox or something. I’m sure these issues will all be fixed in a later version though. My free Xbox will be arriving tomorrow. I’m really excited.

  7. « But but but Google cares about the consumers and wants to protect the users from hackers and scams etc etc. » -People in discussions about Google making it harder to root/magisk android q.

This is obviously proof that Google just wants to fuck over the tech interested users with blocking root and such while also fucking over the casual users by letting anything get into the play store
